Just found this video from my friends over at Damn Arbor, whose fair city has recently been named one of the most walkable cities in America (a fact to which I can attest, having walked at least a mile daily during my year and a half stint there – although I did come within a foot of getting hit that one time but it was definitely my fault). Sure, this video was made to convince people to vote to increase funding for public transportation for the May 3rd vote (it passed!), but the first half of the video has some pretty cool information about streetcars in Grand Rapids.
For more info about the history of transportation in Grand Rapids, I recommend visiting the Grand Rapids Public Museum, where you can not only get in the drivers seat of a restored horse-drawn streetcar, but can also hop on one of these and start pedaling:
